Parsec : A unit of distance It is used for measuring distances of long range ie the distance between planets, diameter of distant galaxies etc.


One parsec is the distance at which one astronomical unit subtends an angle of one arcsecond
In the figure OB is one parsec
AB= 1 astronomical unit
∟AOB= 1 second
 Tan(1’’)=AB/OB
OB=AB / tan(1”)=1 AU/1’’=206264.81 AU
